The globalization of eating disorders has become a big problem. Susan Bordo using facts and examples explain how the body image, media, and culture influence the standard of the beauty and lead to eating disorder.
At the fist part, author used a example to give a attention to the readers that engaged the body image. Then Susan explained how the magazine affected the looks of body image. Especially, as the western think to be slim is beauty, so that if you are a big, voluptuous body, it makes terrible look.
Secondly Susan pointed out that eating and body problems have become a global phenomenon. Here are some typically examples that can support her idea. The women and girls feel comfortable no matter what body image they are in Fiji, however after the media go into there, the aspect of body image has been changed and eating disorder problem came as following. The example in central Africa could explain how the global media broken the traditional cultures of beauty. Voluptuous women have been celebrated in their traditional culture, but slim is beautiful. There are more and more people having eating disorder problems. the main reason is that most people have beening effected by the fashion or globalize good looking of body image. so that some people are opposite their traditional culture. the author is trying to tell people how it is happened. letting people know that we shouldn't effected by the mass cummunity. finding a ture value of yourself not just base on body image. I think health and confidence is the most important factor for beauty.
